Caries Control

Because cavities are preventable—and prevention is powerful.

Cavities don’t just “happen.” They’re a sign that something in the system isn’t working quite right.

In our practice, we go beyond drilling and filling. We aim to understand why decay is happening—so we can stop it at the root and protect your child’s teeth for the long haul.

We believe cavity care is whole-child care. And it starts with understanding the ecosystem of the mouth.

What Causes Cavities?

Cavities form when acid-producing bacteria thrive in the mouth. But this doesn’t happen in isolation—several key factors influence the oral environment:

  • Diet (especially frequent snacking or sugary drinks)

  • Oral hygiene (technique, routine, and consistency)

  • Saliva flow and quality

  • Microbial balance (the “good guys” vs. the “bad guys”)

  • Mouth breathing (which dries the mouth and lowers pH)

  • Developmental factors (like a tied tongue or crowded teeth that trap food and plaque)

By understanding your child’s unique risk profile, we can offer a plan that’s both personalized and effective.

Caries Management - Colorado Dentist

What We Do Differently

Our cavity prevention and management plan includes:

Personalized Hygiene Coaching

We don’t just say “brush better”—we teach you how to brush effectively, especially around tricky areas like the gumline or erupting molars. We help you choose the right brush, toothpaste, and habits for your child’s age and stage.

Feeding Guidance

We’ll help you navigate snacks, drinks, and hidden sugars—especially if your child grazes or sips often. We can also address oral habits that impact cavity risk, like mouth breathing or extended bottle use.

Bacteria Testing

When needed, we test the actual bacteria in your child’s mouth. This allows us to see if they’re hosting high-risk strains—and create a strategy to rebalance their oral microbiome.

Remineralization & pH Support

We can recommend rinses, pastes, or tablets that help teeth rebuild and neutralize acid. We’ll also teach you how to read signs of enamel wear and strengthen teeth naturally.

Parent Coaching & Empowerment

Most importantly, we partner with you. We know how hard it can be to manage brushing battles, picky eating, or a busy schedule. Our goal is to support—not shame—while giving you tools that actually work.

When Fillings Are Needed

If your child already has decay, we’ll walk you through your options—including minimally invasive techniques. We approach each case gently, explaining things in kid-friendly language and pacing care based on your child’s comfort and trust level.

We also watch for signs that cavity formation may be a symptom of something deeper—like airway dysfunction, poor sleep, or chewing strain—so we can connect you with the right support if needed.

Caries Control is Not Just About Teeth

It’s about supporting a child’s immune system, daily habits, and long-term health from the inside out.

If you’ve ever been told “it’s just genetics” or felt blamed for your child’s cavities, you’re not alone—and we’re here to do things differently.

Let’s protect those little teeth, naturally and intentionally.
Because oral health is more than clean teeth—it’s whole-body resilience.
